Sticky Note Series

In honour of #mentalhealthmonth , I am introducing my newest writing project!

✨📋Sticky Note Series📋✨

The inspiration behind this project is a deceptively simple question: “Is it actually possible to grow and change for the better?”

Remember when in the beginning of the pandemic, we were encouraged to check in with our loved ones and ask how they’re doing? Now, over a year into the pandemic, I recently heard that we can assume most of us are not ok.

Some days I find myself functioning fairly well and other days the most minor setback feels like my world is spiraling.

While I think a lot of us find this a common pattern in the pandemic, my lack of coping skills unfortunately predates the time of social distancing and wearing masks.

I had known for a while that I am not as resilient as I once was or as resilient as living with SMA requires. With every new obstacle and every difficulty I’m being dealt, I feel totally devastated. I’m now in my {cough} 30s and have not yet learned tools to cope with life’s difficulties. And when you have had a serious illness like SMA since birth, that’s kind of a big problem 🤦🏻‍♀️

So…

When I saw a writing course Alex Elle was offering in November called Writing to Heal - Reclaiming Resilience, I knew this was calling my name.

While there are many aspects of this course I loved, two writing practices have been particularly life-changing: a daily gratitude journal and writing affirmations in the form of digital sticky notes. These concepts were not new to me or anything, but I had never really considered incorporating them into my life. My perspective has shifted. What I once thought was kind of forced or on-the-surface I know realize is pow-er-ful stuff.

If this is resonating with anyone out there, I hope you will follow along with me as I share my sticky notes with you guys. Feel free to repost, comment, send me a DM or claim the notes in your own affirmation practice. Some of my captions will be short and sweet and some will be heavy, but I just felt like I had to share what has been meaningful to me during this stressful time and maybe it will be helpful to you as well. God knows the world could use some resilience right now!
